Founded in 1999, DVMHPI, also known as The Domestic Violence and Mental Health Policy Initiative, is a Chicago-based project designed to address the mental health needs of domestic violence survivors and children. It has offered services to more than 75 domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse and social service agencies, as well as city and state policymakers. The project also provides trauma-informed services that address the mental health impact of domestic violence and lifetime abuse. Additionally, DVMHPI provides resources related to policy, research and practices to policy makers throughout the United States. It also offers training, consulting and networking services, as well as technical assistance to local agencies. The project works on public mental health agenda that promotes early intervention and the prevention of abuse and interpersonal violence. DVMHPI is located in Chicago.
