The Capital Development Board (CDB) is the construction management arm of the state government of Illinois. It oversees the design and construction of new elementary and high schools, college and university facilities, public safety and health centers, museums and historic sites, state recreation areas, office buildings and prisons. The board oversees a staff of more than 140 employees. The Capital Development Board is responsible for annual repair and renovation programs at over 8,400 state-owned properties. It works with the Illinois State Board of Education to administer grants for school construction and renovation to local elementary and secondary school districts. In addition, the Capital Development Board administers the removal of hazardous materials, such as asbestos and lead from state-owned facilities.
