ChildServ was originally established as the Methodist Deaconess Orphanage in 1894. The Agency was renamed the Lake Bluff/Chicago Homes for Children and later became ChildServ. Since its founding, ChildServ has played a key role in child welfare services in the Chicago area. It annually provides care and nurturing to nearly 3,800 children and their families across Cook, Lake and DuPage counties. During fiscal year 2005, Childserv staff assisted children and families at 14 different program sites. ChildServ's service categories are identified as community-building programs or out-of-home programs. Some of its community-building programs include support of home-base early head start, tutoring and the Ways to Work transportation assistance program. Its out-of-home programs include family foster care, group homes and post adoption services.
