Based in Alton, Ill., the Catholic Children's Home provides care services for the needs, education and welfare of dependent, neglected and needy children and youths of the surrounding area. The home was founded in 1879 and is sponsored and supported by the Catholic Diocese, Springfield, Ill. It is accredited by the North Central Accreditation and Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. It operates a special education day school for youths and children with learning disabilities, developmental delays, speech and language disorders, neurological problems and emotional disturbances. It also offers services for children in crisis through its comprehensive residential services. Its special education department provides educational and therapeutic services to students of 5 to 21 years of age, who due to social, emotional and educational problems have discontinued with their public school programs. The Catholic Children's Home s therapeutic services include art, occupational, speech and language and reading therapies.
