Founded in 1960, Capri Beauty College has three locations: Oak Forest, New Lenox and Chicago. The college recently marked its 50th anniversary in January 2010. The Oak Forest campus currently has the college's highest student population, with 135 students. Enrollment fluctuates. Capri is recognized as a Pivot Point institution.
The college offers courses in cosmetology and cosmetology instruction. A typical cosmetology program requires 1,500 hours of coursework. A full-time student can complete the program in 12 months. After completing the basic program, students can go on to the cosmetology instructor program. The short-course program requires 500 hours of study, while the traditional, longer program requires 1,000 hours. The shorter program is open to students who have been employed in the cosmetology field for two years.
The college is easily reached via 159th Street and includes students who commute from Tinley Park, Orland Park, Palos Park, Oak Lawn, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Lockport, Mokena, Joliet, Alsip, Crestwood, Flossmoor and Chicago Heights.
Students work and attend class in two buildings which house cosmetology classrooms, practice rooms, offices, a full customer clinic, facial and pedicure spa rooms, a private party room, lunchrooms and on-site parking. The college also offers a private party room for rental for special occasions.
