The Buffalo Grove Police Department employs 71 officers who are dedicated to the safety of the village's residents. Currently led by Police Chief Steve Balinski, the department includes a traffic division, investigations division and canine unit. It is a member of the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County, Lake County Safe Kids and the Buffalo Grove Traffic Management Committee. Buffalo Grove police are a constant presence in the community, where they offer a variety of awareness and education programs. Those programs include a Citizens Police Academy, community forums on drug abuse, bike rodeos and Neighborhood Watch. The department, which is located on Buffalo Grove's Village Hall campus, is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
