Founded in 1855, Bremen Township covers the cities of Oak Forest, Markham and Bremen. The Township offers senior services, youth programs, general assistance and emergency assistance for residents struggling financially. The township is staffed by eight full-time employees and 17 part-timers. The senior citizen programs are run in coordination with Thornton Township and offer bingo, field trips and shopping trips. The not-for-profit youth service program, designed for those 8 to 18, provides individual and group counseling, mentoring programs and summer camps. Youth Services is also available for emergency crisis intervention. Service fees are set according to the family's ability to pay. The township is run by a supervisor and board of trustees.
