BNP Paribas is a global banking and financial services company. It was created in 2000 through the merger of Banque Nationale de Paris and Paribas. BNP Paribas is the largest bank in Europe by market capitalization and total assets. In France, BNP Paribas is active in retail banking with more than 2,200 branches and over 3,200 ATMs. It operates in three business segments that include corporate and investment banking, asset management and services and retail banking. Its specialized financial services include consumer credit, financial services for business, car and truck leasing, real estate financing, telephone sales of retail saving products and direct retail banking services. It has more than 140,000 employees working in over 80 countries. In the United States, BNP Paribas owns and manages Bank of the West and also provides investment banking services through its subsidiary, BancWest. Headquartered in Paris, BNP Paribas maintains an office in Chicago.
