Baby TALK, in Decaur, Ill., provides support services to families with very young children. Baby TALK offers more than 6,000 contacts with parents and children each month in its Decatur programs, holds weekly Baby TALK times with parents of newborn to 3 year old children at various community sites and teaches parenting classes to teen parents at high schools, middle schools and Boys and Girls Clubs. It also provides early intervention services to infants and toddlers, parenting education for low-income parents at the health department's Well Child Clinic and organizes monthly family fun nights. BT meets new families at the hospitals during deliveries, holds lapsits for 1 to 3 year olds and sends bimonthly newsletters to parents during the first three years of their child's life. Baby TALK s also provides a phone service for parents, teaches read aloud techniques to parents and provides special prenatal education for low-income parents.
