History
Augustino's began a a small Italian grocery store selling specialty sandwiches off a small deli counter in the back to shift workers and high school kids hungry for a great deal. When we started selling more sandwiches than pasta sauce, Jerry and his parents Augie and Phyllis, decided it was time to change course and open as a restaurant. Our first location in Carol Stream opened in 80's with our West Chicago location opening in December of 2005. The decor, like in our original location, focuses on Rock and Roll because Augie, Jerry's Dad, served in the Korean War booking entertainment for the troops and saw first hand what music does to the spirit. Whereas a good portion of the memorabilia in Carol Stream focuses on Chicagoland bands, the artifacts in West Chicago are divided by decades. All of the signed pieces are authentic and the staff loves working among the faces of so many greats! This location boasts a Drive-thru in addition to Tuesday night car shows in the summer.
Specialties
Augie's is known for a sub sandwich the size of your forearm. Our Italian beef, roast beef and meatballs are homemade, using family recipes. Our vinegar and oil dressing is a closely guarded secret, known affectionately as 'love potion number nine'. Other family favorites include our New York styled corned beef and Philly steak sandwiches, and half pound Angus burgers. New to the menu - deep fried pickles and green beans as well as an entire Gluten Free section....WHAT? Gluten Free at a Deli? That's right, we did it! Having celebrated over 30 years in business we pride ourselves on generous portions using fresh ingredients and made to order items. While other sandwich shops brag about how cheap they can make a sandwich, we concentrate on quality, slicing everything fresh and using meats with no added fillers and water. As we tell all our customers - we're NOT fast food....we are good food fast.
