The Astronomical Research Institute, a 501 C 3 not-for-profit research organization, was established in June 2002 with a primary focus on science education programs. However, in 2006, the organization shifted its emphasis to near-Earth Object (NEO) observations, collaborating with NASA on their NEO Observations program and becoming the top-ranked research facility worldwide in terms of measures of NEOs produced.
Operating from observatory code H21, the facility currently operates four telescopes, including a 50 inch, 32 inch, 30 inch, and 24 inch telescopes. With an impressive track record, the Astronomical Research Institute has made notable discoveries, including comets, supernovae, near-Earth objects, trans-Neptunian objects, and numerous asteroids. Additionally, the institute oversees the Southern Sky NEO project, which operates from Cerro Tololo in Chile.
