American Health Information Management Association, located in Chicago, is an association of health information management professionals. The association was established in 1928, and has more than 40,000 members providing management of personal health information for health care needs. It addresses various issues affecting health care, including implementation of electronic health records systems and creation of a national health information network. The association provides various certificates, master s and baccalaureate and associate degree programs approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education. It also offers distance learning programs in health information management, coding, and health care privacy and security. The association also offers a specialty advancement program and courses in applied informatics, such as physics and clinical terminology systems. The association s Foundation of Research and Education supports various education, research and leadership development activities.
