American Academy of Pediatrics, located in Elk Grove Village, Ill., is an organization comprising more than 60,000 pediatricians, including pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists. The agency focuses on the physical, mental and social health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and youth. More than 34,000 members are board-certified and are recognized as fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics. American Academy of Pediatrics founded in 1930 as an independent pediatric forum by a group of pediatricians to meet the needs of children. The agency is governed by a 10-member board of directors that are elected by members in their regional districts. It also focuses on furthering professional education of its members, and offers various continuing education courses and scientific meetings.
