Kerasotes Theatres founder, Gus Kerasotes, opened a storefront nickelodeon in Springfield, Ill., in 1909. By the 1960s, company had more than 10 theatres throughout Illinois. The theatres have more than 600 screens in approximately 80 theatres in the Midwest making the company one of the United States largest film exhibitors. The company s theatres generally operate under the name of ShowPlace. Kerasotes Theatres has locations in Naperville, Cicero, Niles, Chicago, Vernon Hills, Alton, New Castle, Collinsville, Benton, Carbondale, Centralia, Charleston, Danville, East Eaton, Edwardsville, Galesburg, Harrisburg, Highland, Jacksonville, Jerseyville, Lake in the Hills, Machesney Park, Marion, Mattoon, Mount Vernon and New Lenox, Ill; Richmond, Schererville, Peru, Muncie, Michigan City, Merrillville, Marion, LaPorte, Indianapolis, Evansville, Columbus, Bloomington, Hobart and Kokomo, Ind.; Poplar Bluff, Park Hills, Kennett, Farmington, Dexter and Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Inver Grove Heights and Coon Rapids, Minn.; Hamilton, Ohio; and Keokuk, Iowa.
