The Rockford Park District is a local unit of municipal government that cares for the public s property and assets and provides a high-quality recreation experience. It was formed in 1909 and is governed by an elected five-member board of commissioners who serve six-year terms without compensation. The Rockford Park District is the second largest municipal park system in Illinois. The organization serves the communities of Rockford, Loves Park, Cherry Valley and New Milford, Ill. It establishes and maintains park and recreation systems for the health, well-being and entertainment of citizens.
