The Amitabha Buddhist Library, the first Buddhist library in the Midwest, is completely volunteer-run. Bert and Li-Su Tan opened the 2,400-square-foot space in 2003. It features print versions of the Buddhist Canon and sutras, as well as audiovisual materials in English, Chinese and Vietnamese. Amitabha offers books for loan (patrons are limited to five take-home books per visit) and even several shelves' worth to keep. Other library amenities include broadband Internet access, television and even recipes from the Lotus Vegetarian Kitchen.
