History
Great Harvest Bread has been baking whole grain breads since the 70's long before it was trendy. Founders, Pete & Laura Wakeman opened their first bakery in Great Falls, MT. Word spread fast about their uniquely flavorful bread made with pure-and-simple ingredients and wheat purchased from local farmers. In 1978, the franchise was born. Slowly and organically, Great Harvest began to grow into the nation's first family of independently owned and operated whole grain bread bakeries. In 1982, Peggy & Paul opened the Boise bakery at its current location, 5608 Fairview Avenue. In 2007, Zach & Mallari purchased the Boise bakery, then Zane and Heather took the reins in 2018 and continue to own and operate the store at its original location today. The owners are very involved in the daily operations of the bakery. Next time you're in, introduce yourself!
