The Idaho Department of Commerce works to create jobs, strengthen communities and market the state. It maintains a science and technology advisory council that is composed of university presidents, government agency leaders and industry executives. The department administers the Idaho Community Development Block Grant program, which allocates funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Its funds are used to construct projects that benefit low and moderate-income families. The department s power and energy, biological sciences, and digital imaging and sensor technologies, and new materials and nanotechnology platforms have been formed by the Idaho Science & Technology Advisory Council.
