AboutDr. RichardsonAndrew Barrister Richardson, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in Adult Reconstructive Joint Replacement focusing on primary hip and knee replacement (arthroplasty) as well as hip and knee revision arthroplasty. He has a special interest in robotic hip and knee replacement, muscle-sparing anterior total hip replacement, minimally invasive partial and total knee replacement rapid recovery protocols and outpatient hip/knee replacement.Born and raised in Honolulu, Dr. Richardson is a third-generation Native Hawaiian orthopedic surgeon. He attended college at the University of California, Berkeley. He then attended the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Richardson completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, one of the nations top-ranked orthopedic training programs.After completing his residency training in 2015, Dr. Richardson completed his subspecialist training in hip and knee joint replacement at the world-renowned Joint Implant Surgeons clinic in New Albany, Ohio. While there, he trained in state-of-the-art hip and knee replacement techniques and worked with internationally recognized experts Dr. Adolph V. Lombardi Jr. and Dr. Keith R. Berend.Dr. Richardson is honored to continue his familys orthopedic legacy in Hawaii. His grandfather, Dr. Barrister (Buster) Allen Richardson, was the first Native Hawaiian board-certified orthopedic surgeon, and his father, Allen B. Richardson, was an internationally recognized expert in orthopedic sports medicine.In his spare time, Dr. Richardson is passionate about sports. He was co-captain of the mens water polo team while at UC Berkeley, and he continues to enjoy canoe paddling, surfing, swimming, hiking, and spending time with his family.
