History
YMCA work started in the Kaimuki area in 1925 with a YMCA boys club by Mr. Shiku Ogura along with many other clubs led by John G Young & Masatoshi Katagiri. The YMCA Center was first located at 9th Avenue and Kaau Street. Mrs. M. Kosasa and the late Mr. Morita Kosasa donated the land to the YMCA of Honolulu in appreciation for the positive influence the club program had on their sons, Neil and Sidney. The building was called the Palolo Y Community Center and later acquired the Language School Buildings at 1419 10th Ave. On May 22, 1943, it became a full-fledged YMCA branch under the name Kaimuki Branch YMCA. On April 7, 1962, the Kaimuki-Waialae YMCA Branch moved to its' current location at 4835 Kilauea Ave. We have continued to grow with our youth programs, swim lessons, and Y's Men club over the years. In 2008, we opened up the Healthy Start Room to focus on Healthy Living.
