Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, based in Kapolei, Hawaii, manages, maintains and operates all parks and recreational facilities of the city, develops and implements programs for cultural and recreational activities, and beautifies the public streets of the city. A board, which consists of nine members, advises the mayor, city council and director, on matters relating to recreation, cultural activities and facilities. It propagates, plants, trims, waters, and maintains shade trees, concrete planters and other ornamental plants cultivated along public roadways, and in city parks and malls. It maintains the Honolulu Botanical Gardens. Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation also constructs, renovates, repairs, services and maintains park buildings, grounds and other recreational facilities.
