History
Friends of the Library of Hawai'i exists to promote and support the fifty public libraries that make up the Hawai'i State Public Library System. Since 1879, Friends of the Library of Hawai'i has worked to increase the facilities and the extension of services of free public libraries in Hawai'i. Today, Friends of the Library of Hawai'i is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization approved by Section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and continues the work of its illustrious founding members and supporters, who included prominent business leaders and Hawaiian royalty.
Specialties
FLH accepts donated books & media for book sales to support our public libraries. We accept donations Monday - Friday by appointment. Our hours are between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. We have a bookstore at Ward Centre Mall called Village Books & Music. Plus, we have book sales. FLH normally hosts 3 major sales each year - the Annual Sale at McKinley HS each Summer; the Art & Book Sale at Washington Middle School each November Veterans' Day Weekend; and the Music & Book Sale at Washington Middle School each January MLK Jr. Holiday Weekend.
