The Walker County Road Department is responsible for maintaining all county roads and right of ways in Walker County, Ga. The department has more than 20 full-time employees, including a road supervisor, an administrative assistant and a fleet manager. Walker County is located in the northwest corner of Georgia. The headquarters for the Walker County government and the Walker County Courthouse is in LaFayette, Ga., the county seat. The county is governed by a sole commissioner. Walker County contains the municipalities of Chattanooga Valley, Chickamauga, Fairview, LaFayette, Lookout Mountain and Rossville. As of the 2000 census, there were more than 60,000 people, 23,000 households and 17,000 families in Walker County.
