The School of Nursing in Athens (SONAT) is part of the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, which has two other off-site campuses. A bachelor of science in nursing program began on the UGA campus in Athens in the 1940s, then moved to MCG in 1956. A nursing program was launched in Athens in 1974. Students take core courses at another college or university and then transfer to SONAT as juniors and seniors. Admission is competitive: more than 400 people usually apply for 100 spots.
