History
The Savannah Theatre was originally built in 1818. It is the oldest continually operating theatre in the United States. The original structure was designed by renowned architect William Jay. Over the past two centuries, the building has undergone several face-lifts as the result of damaging fires. The theatre was remodeled to it's current art deco style in 1948. Some of the many illustrious stars to perform at the Savannah Theatre include Oscar Wilde, Edwin Booth, Lillian Russell and W.C. Fields. Today the theatre has been restored to it's 1948 art deco style. Since 2002, a talented theatre ensemble has produced entertaining music revue shows. With over 250 performances year, it is sure to be the highlight of your trip. Come see a show or stop in to see the free historical display in the lobby.
