Plainville is a city in Gordon County, Georgia, United States. The population of Plainville was 257 at the 2000 census.
Built near a vein of clay useful in the manufacture of bricks and with a railroad line passing through the city, Plainville grew as a brick-building city through the 20th century. In the late 70's, the manufacture of brick became cheaper in other markets, leading to the Plainville Brick Company gearing down its brick production operations. However, the Plainville Brick Company still operates as a distribution point for specialty brick products.
Plainville is situated in the Ridge-and-Valley region of Northwest Georgia. Plainville lies to the east of a bend in the Oostanaula River, an area known as "the Bend", and is roughly halfway between Rome, Georgia and Calhoun, Georgia.
