North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation is an electric cooperative serving more than 95,000 customers in portions of seven northwest Georgia counties, including Catoosa, Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Walker and Whitfield. Residential customers make up more than 85 percent of the membership while the remaining 15 percent is comprised of commercial and industrial customers. North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation is one of 42 electric membership corporations in the state and one of its largest. North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation was chartered by the state in 1936. It is one of three Georgia electric co-ops that buy power from the Tennessee Valley Authority. The system is comprised of 28 substations and more than 6,000 miles of line. Located in the Northwest Georgia Mountains, North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation is a winter peaking system with an all time peak demand of 669 megawatts.
