L. G. Herndon Jr. Farms, located in Lyons, Ga., is a grower of Vidalia Sweet Onions, supersweet corn, vegetables, hogs and cows. Founded in 1979, it produces 500 acres of Vidalia Sweet Onions, 450 acres of sweet corn, and 300 acres of leafy green vegetables annually. Green vegetables produced include leafy collards, mustard and turnip greens. The farm plants the first crop of greens in July. Planting is timed so that the first greens are harvested in September and the last in May. Its products are distributed to supermarkets and individual consumers. The farm is a member of the Vidalia-Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and the Toombs-Montgomery-Vidalia Onion Growers Association.
