The nation s first retail ice cream franchise, Carvel produces a variety of ice cream and other novelty foods. Its products include ice cream cups and cones, sundaes, fruit smoothies, milkshakes and ice cream sandwiches. They are available at the more than 500 company-run stores throughout the United States, as well as nearly 8,000 retailers, including Food Lion, Kroger, Piggly Wiggly, Von s and Winn Dixie. The company s products have been featured in television shows such as Everybody Loves Raymond, The Sopranos, The Simpsons and The Family Guy. Its ice cream was also used to achieve the Guinness World Record for the largest ice cream scoop pyramid and the largest ice cream cake. Carvel was founded in the early 1930s by Greek immigrant Tom Carvel. It has headquarters in Rocky Hill, Conn.
