Hillside is one of the largest New Thought non-denominational churches in the Southeast. Church bishop and founder, the Rev. Barbara King, began Hillside as a home-based Bible study while working as a social work instructor at Clark Atlanta University and student dean at Spelman College in the early 1970s.
Rev. King founded Hillside Chapel and Truth Center in 1974. Her congregation built a church-in-the-round, offices, bookstore, and pre-school on a 12-acre site on Cascade, about a quarter mile west of Beecher Road, in 1991.
Hillside offers more than three dozens ministries and comprehensive educational and inspirational training in class, by daily e-mail and on DVD and CD. Courses and organizations at the chapel include "Aramaic Study of the Bible," "Youth of Truth" and "Spirit of Brotherhood."
