Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the largest generators of electricity in the United States. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving more than 2 million customers. Through the Georgia Power Foundation, the company has contributed more than $70 million to qualifying nonprofit agencies since its inception in 1986. Georgia Power is also one of the largest nongovernment providers of recreation facilities in the state. The company is responsible for more than 10 reservoirs throughout Georgia, including over 60,000-acres of lakes, about 1,000 miles of shoreline, and parks developed for family enjoyment. The company leases more than 30,000-acres of prime hunting land to Georgia for use as wildlife management areas operated by the Wildlife Resources Division of the Department of Natural Resources. Georgia Power is headquartered in Atlanta.
