About Ryan Smith When Ryan Smith joined Family Heritage Life Insurance Company of America (FHL) in 2103, he brought with him an abundance of previous insurance and military experience. He had spent 18 years in the U.S. Army, 12 years with AFLAC in various capacities, and two years with Combined Insurance as Director of Divisional Development. What enticed him to join FHL? "It was the culture and the integrity of the company itself," he says, "and the representatives of Family Heritage Life. We do great things for our clients! We change people's lives! My greatest accomplishment with FHL has been having the honor to work as Vice President of Agency Development. This position gave me an outstanding opportunity to get to know and to learn from the greatest people across the country." Ryan knows well the importance of FHL products. He says, "Very simply, we provide the ability to put cash into our clients' hands to pay the out-of-pocket expenses that their major medical policies may or may not pay. And what is amazing with FHL is if our clients never use their policies, we refund their premiums. In a sense, we provide them the ability to 'own' their policy instead of 'renting' their policy." What is the most rewarding aspect of joining Family Heritage Life for Ryan? "Watching our Agents achieve their dreams," he says, "and also being able to take care of our clients ... literally watching our clients become part of the FHL family through our Agency, Peachtree Heritage Group." What advice does Ryan give to someone considering a sales or leadership position with FHL? "It is the greatest opportunity in America! You now have the ability to design your future yourself," he emphasizes. In his free time, Ryan is the ultimate outdoor enthusiast. He takes part in The Spartan Race. These obstacle races vary from 3 miles to marathon distance with varying degrees of difficulty and are held throughout the United States and abroad. Ryan and his Agency support the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association, and are sponsors of the Best Ranger Competition, a grueling annual military competition held at Fort Benning, Georgia.
