The DeKalb MR Service Center is a division of the DeKalb Community Service Board. The DeKalb CSB is a public agency, a public corporation and an instrumentality of the State of Georgia, and was created to provide mental health, developmental disability and addictive disease services to residents of Atlanta and its surrounding communities. The DeKalb MR Service Center operates the CHOICE (Choosing Habilitation Opportunities in Community Environments) program, which is a community-based day habilitation program for individuals with mental disabilities. The program is intended to serve individuals with developmental disabilities who choose an alternative approach to day services. Individuals are involved in planning their daily activities. Some of the community-integrated services include volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, Salvation Army, Wonderland Gardens, local churches and the Food Bank. Other individuals volunteer to do arts and crafts with senior citizens at a local senior day care center. CHOICE has also started a business making gift cards and stationery, as well as other gift items to sell in the community.
