For years, the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta has been known to create an environment that helps nurture and guide boys and girls through adolescence into adulthood. The nonprofit organization, which is affiliated with the Boys and Girls Club of America, does more than help shape and develop the minds of children and teens, ages 6-18. These professional staffers also help promote the physical, social and character development of about 2,000 children and youths annually. The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club on Donnelly Avenue, one of five units in the metro Atlanta area, provides buses to pick up children from school and bring them into the center, where they are there are a variety of activities.
The organization calls these activities cultural enrichment programs. They include photography, music instruction, homework aid and reading and computer instructions. There are also outside activities that include sports and field trips.
For many of these children, these programs help give them confidence and courage -- the discipline to become leaders.
