Operational since 1976, the Athens Transit System provides transportation services for citizens. The system operates more than 80 bus shelters and over 500 bus stops. It has an administration division that provides management, transit planning and support services to the system. The Athens Transit System manages an operation division that offers nearly 60,000 hours of public transit services annually. It has a fleet of buses that provides services on approximately 15 routes. The system also offers curb-to-curb paratransit services and general public demand response circulator options in rural areas. The Athens Transit System provides vehicle repair, maintenance and replacement programs. It is governed by Athens-Clarke County in Georgia.
