Alpharetta reorganized its police department, fire department and emergency dispatch center into the Department of Public Safety; the police department and dispatch center are located in this headquarters, along with some fire officials' offices. The dispatch center serves Alpharetta and Milton residents in cooperation with Rural EMS, the ambulance serving North Fulton County.
Residents can visit the department for criminal background checks, fingerprinting, alcohol serving permits and gun carry permits. Accident and incident reports also can be obtained. A Citizens Public Safety Academy and the Business Watch are programs adopted to involve the community in its own safety. A memorial park was established in front of the building, with an eagle sculpture dominating the scene. Nearby memorials include one to fallen K-9 officers and another to veterans.
