In 1908, Alpha Gamma Rho was founded at Ohio State University. The Alpha Eta chapter at UGA began in 1927, embracing Alpha Gamma Rho's primary affiliation as an agricultural fraternity. However, an agricultural affiliation or major is by no means a requirement for initiation. AGR does value academics highly and offers scholarships to new brothers as motivation. Brothers engage actively in campus organizations, including, but not limited to, Arch Society, ugaHERO, ugaMIRACLE, Order of Omega and student government. In 2006 and 2008 AGR earned the Interfraternity Council award for Best Chapter House Appearance. Philanthropically, AGR hosts a spring barbecue benefiting the St. Mary's Foundation of Athens. Additionally, it runs a canned foods drive called "night in the cold," which raised 2,900 pounds of cans in 2010 for the North Eastern Food Bank.
