WMBB is the ABC local television affiliate that provides news, programming, entertainment and information to residents of the greater Panama City, Fla., area. The station serves nine counties in the panhandle and has a viewing audience of more than 258,000. WMBB signed on the air in October, 1973, as WDTB-TV, an NBC affiliate. In 1977, WDTB was sold to Octagon Broadcasting of Atlanta, and the call letters were changed to WMBB, an acronym for the world's most beautiful beaches. The station is owned and operated by Media General, a diversified communications company that operates newspapers, television stations and online enterprises, primarily in the Southeastern United States.
