VISTE Services Services include escorted transportation to doctor, shopping, banking, daily reassurance calls to clients who have no one, personal at home assistance for letter writing, reading, phone calls and insurance filing distribution of food from federal commodities and VISTE's food bank. VISTE's objective is to expand services to enhance the quality of life for the 10, 449 frail elderly served. This is the fastest growing age group in the U.S.A. People are living longer and are often financially unprepared to do so. On a fixed income, a costly medication for a lifetime places clients in the position of choosing between food or medications. Services are provided to clients whose address is Lakeland, Bartow, Fort Meade and Mulberry, and they live in Polk County. With the cuts in the federal programs, VISTE has a Basic Needs Program for clients. Assistance is available for relief in electric bills, prescription drugs, cleaning and food supplies, and minor repairs to home and property. These funds are provided through the generosity of many individuals. Services are geared to older persons who need assistance because of advanced age, poor health, unsafe living conditions, financial problems, isolated and lonely environments, transportation problems, medical needs, faulty nutrition, unavailable family assistance, and numerous other factors. Our typical client is 84, female, and lives alone. VISTE receives funds from the United Way of Central Florida, the City of Lakeland, the City of Bartow and through individuals, businesses and foundations. Though we receive funding from the Community Foundation of Greater Lakeland, we do not apply for funding from the State or Federal Government.
