Tomas Villanueva, D.O., MBA, is chief of primary care for Baptist Health Medical Group. Previously, Dr. Villanueva was the founder and medical director of the Hospital Medicine Program for Baptist Health Medical Group, overseeing primary care practices and hospitalists. In his current position, Dr. Villanueva provides direction for Baptist Health Primary Care Value-Based Care models and population health. Dr. Villanueva’s contributions to Baptist Health Primary Care have allowed for the center of excellence to grow exponentially in the last two years, expanding the primary care group to 27 physicians and 11 locations. He also serves as the executive physician responsible for hospital and palliative care medicine and primary care redesign.He received his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he received the Eric Reiss Award for Outstanding Teaching. He also has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami. Dr. Villanueva is Board-certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative care. In addition, he is a clinical assistant professor of medicine at Nova Southeastern University and at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.He is a member of the inaugural class of senior fellows for the Society of Hospital Medicine, and is immediate past president of the South Florida Chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives.
