History
Barbering is a trade that has withstood the test of time. the trade dates back to the ancient Egyptians. Instruments made from oyster shells, and sharpened flint were used to perform grooming services along with surgical procedures. Over the years, scientific advancements in medicine and dentistry slowly became too much for barber surgeons. Unable to perform the triple functions without endangering the patient, barbers were forced to separate the three professions in the year 1745. The profession began to decline. Thus resulting in the loss of its ancient ranking. It wasn't until the year 1893 when A.B. Moler of Chicago established the first-ever school for barbers. The schools' great success led to more organized education in the United States, allowing the trade to rise as a respected profession once again. Today the profession continues to climb the social ladder. With fashion always evolving, barbers are constantly finding new ways to service their community.
