The Tampa Bay Rays, a Major League Baseball team, are part of the Eastern Division of the American League. The team was founded in 1998 with baseball s latest expansion. The Rays finished in last place in the American League East every year from 1998-2003. The beginning 2004 season, the team compiled a 42-41 record in its first 83 games, staying within five games of the American League wild card, then finished 70-91 and forth in the American League East. Former Rays third baseman Wade Boggs was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Tampa Bay Rays all-stars include Carl Crawford, Lance Carter, Randy Winn, Greg Vaughn, Fred McGriff, Jose Canseco, Roberto Hernandez and Rolando Arrojo. The team plays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
