Before it was officially named St. Thomas, parish founder Fr. Thomas Earner held mass at Anclote Elementary School, located in the Seven Springs neighborhood of New Port Richey. Two years later, funds were raised so a building could be constructed – one that the church could call its very own. It was here that St. Thomas Aquinas' first service was held, fittingly on Thanksgiving Day. By 1986, additions on the building were constructed to accommodate their growing community.
Pastor Fr. Michael Lydon is a Tampa Bay native (born in St. Petersburg). He founded St. Justin Martyr in nearby Largo before he transitioned to St. Thomas Aquinas, where he celebrated his 25th anniversary of Priesthood.
Many ministries are available to the 2,000+ families that attend St. Thomas Aquinas: Liturgical Ministries (Altar Servers, Church Angels, Music Ministers, Ministers of Hospitality); Outreach Ministries (The Bereavement Ministry, Ministry to the Sick & Homebound, Respite Care Program); Faith Formation; Parish Council; Prayer Group; Social Justice; Social Ministries, Young Adult Ministry and Youth Ministry (divided into 'Edge' for grades 6-8, and 'Life Teen' for 9th-12th graders).
