Alpha Fern is located in Pierson, Fla., and grows leatherleaf fern and an assortment of other cut greens. The company s main office is located in Barberville, Fla., on more than 350 acres with about 100 acres under cultivation. Its greens are grown under poly shade houses and under native oak hammocks. Its products include leatherleaf fern, tree fern, plumosis, pittosporum, sprengeri, ming and ivy. Alpha Fern harvests its greens daily and after being cut and bunched, the greenery is dipped into a precooled vat of Hydrosealtm, a preservative that extends the shelf life. It is then packed according to the customer s order and stored in a refrigerated cooler prior to shipping. The company ships by commercial carriers on refrigerated truck lines.
