The St. Petersburg Fire Department, established in 1907, is a full-service public safety agency that has more than 30 units of firefighting apparatus, over 10 fire stations, and a work force of nearly 300 firefighters and paramedics. It provides specialized life safety services by staffing various specialty teams. The fire department has a technical rescue team that responds to elevated, below-grade, confined space and structural collapse rescue operations. The St. Petersburg Fire Department also has a hazardous materials team that handles cases related to the releases of toxic substances, liquids or gases countywide. Located in St. Petersburg, Fla., its dive and marine rescue team is staffed by certified rescue divers and responds to the rescue victims of emergencies in waterways.
