Formed in 1965, Pinellas County Housing Authority ( PCHA ) is governed by a five-member Board of Commissioners that is appointed by the Governor of the State of Florida. PCHA is an independent agency, operating under the authority of Florida Statute FS421.04 ' 421.08. PCHA provides housing and rental assistance to more than 4, 500 families in Pinellas County. PCHA owns three public housing complexes and four affordable rental housing complexes, including an assisted living facility. In addition, PCHA administers a county-wide rental choice voucher program ( also known as Section 8 ). The authority also has a veteran's preference in place for its existing housing programs, providing assistance to hundreds of homeless veterans since its inception.
