Established in 1824, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office is a state and federally accredited law enforcement agency that preserves human lives and property, protects public peace and the rights of citizens, and prevents crime and disorder. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFLEA) and Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC). The Monroe County Sheriff's Office employs a staff of more than 585 full- and part-time sworn officers, civilians and community volunteers.
