History
Miami Shotokan Karate Club, a direct affiliate of the Japan Karate Association and JKA/American Federation, was founded by Jose Ferrand (JKA 6th Dan) in 1993. Starting with a small group of founding members, our dojo has grown into a large family of dedicated students with a mutual love for karate. Committed to a high standard of disciplined training, we offer numerous daily classes for both children and adults. Throughout the year, our members have the privilege of participating in various special training camps and tournaments both regionally and nationally. When you join Miami Shotokan, you will find that the quality instruction and hard training on the part of our students has resulted in an unrivaled camaraderie and spirit among our members. We celebrate our anniversary each year with a sunrise training on Key Biscayne, followed by a BBQ - open to all dojo members and their families. We also host other family-friendly events for dojo members throughout the year.
Specialties
We are Miami Shotokan Karate Club, Miami's premier karate dojo based in Southwest Miami-Dade county. Our dojo welcomes students from all walks of life - regardless of whether or not you have a martial arts background. Miami Shotokan is lead by Sensei Jose Ferrand, 6th degree black belt and we are affiliated with the Japan Karate Association (JKA) and JKA/American Federation. We practice the art of Shotokan Karate - a traditional Japanese martial art that comes from Okinawa. Classes will focus on basic movements (Kihon), forms (Kata) and sparring technique (Kumite.) The classes are taught at the level of the students and will advance as our students advance.
