Established in 1950, Miami Children's Hospital is a nonprofit medical care center that has more than 600 staff members. Its facilities feature cardiology, hematology, oncology, neuroscience, pulmonology, preventive medicine and intensive care units. The hospital offers medical services for issues related to puberty, family planning, eating disorders, and smoking and tobacco cessation. It also provides behavioral modification, intervention, and evaluation and treatment services for sexually transmitted infections. Miami Children's Hospital offers allergy management and health care services for children who suffer from pediatric cancer, leukemia, and acute and chronic blood disorders. It provides an early steps program that focuses on rehabilitative, restorative nursing, and family, behavioral and mental health counseling services. The hospital additionally provides a tele-education program that reaches to more than 70 people in Latin America and Caribbean. Miami Children's Hospital maintains one of its facilities in Palmetto Bay, Fla.
