The Public Works Department is governed by the city of Lakeland in Florida. It oversees a staff of more than 280 full-time employees. The department constructs roadways, parking lots, and stormwater drainage systems. It is responsible for the maintenance of city streets, alleys, sidewalks and curbs. The Public Works Department operates an engineering division that administers the design of various private development projects, including apartment complexes and commercial establishments. It maintains a traffic operations division that conducts the installation, operation and maintenance of the city s traffic control devices. The department also provides plumbing, painting, roofing, carpentry, and heating, ventilation and air conditioning services for city facilities. The Public Works Department additionally offers a range of solid waste and fleet management services.
